ESTEEM'S first project in Europe;
This pilot scheme offers a seven-day taster’ break for people aged between 18-26years who feel they would benefit from vocational inspiration and personal development. We invite participants to spend a week in a vacation centre near Granada called ‘Cortijo Vadillo’, set in 30 acres of olive, almond and fruit trees, with wild herbs, natural springs, birds of prey and lots of pure Spanish mountain air.
During this week, from 19th to 26th May 2010, the young people will be able to take part three workshops ;–
- ‘Healthy Living’: enjoyable and uplifting outdoor activities, including horse riding, nature walks, yoga, dance and more – toning up both body and mind!
- ‘Imagework,’ a personal development programme to stimulate your creativity, use relaxation and visualisation to discover real goals in life.
- 'Grow your own at home’ where our horticulture experts will show how to raise herbs and vegetables that can be easily used in everyday cooking and even grown in widow boxes back at home.
- At breakfast the group will be taught a few useful words of Spanish and then join in outdoor activities, such as a hill walk or an excursion to local places of interest as well as buying fresh food at markets nearby or enjoying meal a typically Spanish restaurant.
- To take part in this opportunity we ask that participants fundraise a minimum of £100 which will go towards flights, food and accommodation, they will also need spending money and a valid passport. ESTEEM is offering individuals support with fundraising if required. Some of our volunteers and trustees will accompany the group travelling to Granada. Previous Projects:
Following the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004, ESTEEM, then going under its original name of C.H.O.I.C.E. (Childrens’ Homes or ‘In Care' Experience) our team used the money we raised in Brighton to train some of the disaster affected the young women to produce 'Tsunami Tamil Teddy Bears' which we later used to raise money in several countries.
Other work was done with Suanese refugee families in Brighton as well as one- to-one work with care-leavers in Sussex and France.
